The Cleveland Police Museum is honored to tell the stories of our Fallen Officers on the anniversary of their End of Watch
The Nguyen family arrived in the United States in 1975, settling in the Cleveland area. Vu X. Nguyen graduated from Lakewood High School and attended Ohio State University for two years. He served four years as a Cleveland Police Corrections Officer and was appointed as a Patrol Officer on September 28th,1998. After completing the Police Academy, his assignments included the Third and Fourth Districts and the Narcotic Unit. During his career, he received a number of commendations from residents and business members and was awarded the Police Medal Of Heroism. His goal was to become a member of the Canine Unit.
On July 2nd, 2018, Patrol Officer Vu Nguyen suffered a medical emergency while participating in a physical agility assessment for a position within the Canine Unit in 90-degree heat. He was rushed to Metro Health Medical Center and on Thursday, July 5th he was transferred to the Cleveland Clinic for further treatment, where he was placed on life support. Officer Nguyen passed away on July 6th, 2018.
Officer Nguyen was highly respected by his peers, who described him as a unifying force wherever he worked. Business owners across the city reached out the family to support them because of the impact Vu had on their lives. First and foremost, he was a family man spending as much time as possible with his wife and children.
