Heroes Roll Call: John Blaskovic, #1092

Patrolman John Thomas Blaskovic, #1092, EOW 11/15/1944

John Thomas Blaskovic was appointed a Patrolman on March 1, 1944 and assigned Badge Number 1092.  While assigned to the Police Academy, Officer Blaskovic requested a Leave of Absence on May 23, 1944 to join the U.S. Army.  His request was granted.

Patrolman Blaskovic served in the 137th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division and was severely injured on November 11th and succumbed to his wounds on November 15, 1944.  He was laid to rest in the Lorraine American Cemetery in St Avold, France. Private First-Class John T. Blaskovic was awarded the Purple Heart, posthumously.



Officer Blaskovic was survived by his father Marko, mother Rose, and he was the brother of George, Peter, Michael, Anne, Elsie, Rose and Mrs. Sam Pello.  A memorial Mass was held on December 21, 1944 at St. Pauls Church, 1369 East 40th Street.

Veterans Of Foreign Wars Post 5275, located at 6529 St. Clair Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio, was named the John T. Blaskovic Post on April 27, 1950.
