Heroes Roll Call: James Goodwin

Leading up to National Police Week, the Cleveland Police Museum will tell the stories of Cleveland’s fallen officers.

James P. Goodwin, #1104, EOW 5/4/1942

Officer James P. Goodwin joined the Cleveland Police Department on December 6, 1926. He served in the motorcycle unit for over 15 years. On a warm spring day in in 1942, over 230,000 Clevelanders participated in a War Bond Parade through University Circle. While protecting the parade participants, Officer Goodwin was struck by an oncoming automobile and thrown from his motorcycle. He died from his injuries on May 4, 1942 and was survived by his wife Edna and daughters Jean and Pauline.
